Port Neches, TX. 2010
Season Opener
March 17th 2010, Nixa, MO.
The season is finally arriving with the first stop in Port Neches,
TX. This venue is having its 9th year according to Forrest Barber,
the local race promoter. Forrest says the the Port Neches River
Festival has grown to crowds of 30,000 for the 4 day event that
includes concerts, car shows, and the "Thunder On the
River" boat race. Forrest says that the addition of the
Formula One Boats has really added a lot of excitment to the
festival.
Wayne Worthy, director of the
Formula One PROP Tour says, "The Formula One class is the
fastest and hardest turning vehical in motor sports with as high
as 4 "Gs" in the tight turns. They reach speeds of 140
mph on the straightaways and go into and out of the turns at over
100 mph. The Formula Two class is the 2nd level of boats that will
be at the race reaching speeds of 110 mph. In all, there are 4
different classes racing on the river for the Port Neches crowds
to watch. We are also bringing the Formula Lights which is a entry
level boat. Formula Light boats are 13 foot mini version of the
Formula One and Two boats. They are powered by 50 hp Johnson and
Evinrude outboards. We run them on a shorter race course than the
bigger boats and that makes them really fun to watch! But if you
want excitment...............look for the Tri-Hull Super Stock
class! John Schubert, director of the Sport Racing Series and
founder of the Tri-Hulls, says "This is chaos on water!"
When we put these boats on the water, everybody finds their place
in the grandstands to watch the excitment!
The race dates are April 30 thru
May 2nd located at the Port Neches City Park on the Neches River.
